Work & Study Programme

Students joining this programme are offered free Russian classes (Standard course – 20 lessons per week) and take one of the below mentioned unpaid positions. Accommodation, visa support fee and postal expenses are not included in this offer and are to be paid in full. Students have the benefit of the full use of the school facilities, and the ability to participate in the social programme.

The minimum period for an internship is 8 weeks, maximum – 3 months.

For most of the positions we offer a 4-hour working day with the afternoon working hours from Monday till Friday (see the requirements of the particular position for the exceptions).

Position: School administrator

We are always looking for talented young people to help us in our marketing development. We offer the opportunity to gain practical work experience in the friendly environment of our school.

Requirements:

  • Minimum admission age: 20
  • Academic background and qualifications are important, but we particularly value applicants with enthusiasm and the ability to work independently with little supervision
  • We are particularly interested in candidates from European countries, UK, USA, Canada
  • Knowledge of Russian at a minimum A 2.2. level
  • Knowledge of Internet technologies and marketing is an advantage
  • The preference will be given to former male students of Derzhavin Institute, English native speakers
  • This position might involve working at weekends and evenings (the working week will not exceed 20 hours)

Typical duties

  • Writing blog articles, FB posts
  • Editing social media pages
  • Contact with agencies, universities, schools in your native country
  • Online marketing (website promotion, newsletters, etc.) and school promotion
  • Administrative work and/or reception duties
  • Translation of web pages into your native language
  • Helping with the cultural programme in the school

Position: short video film director and photographer

Requirements:

  • Minimum admission age: 20
  • Experience in shooting and editing videos (we kindly ask you to send a link to your sample work)
  • Students applying for this position are asked to come to the programme with their own camera and laptop with the software necessary to make a video
  • Knowledge of Russian at a minimum A 2.1. level
  • This position might involve working at weekends (the working week will not exceed 20 hours)
  • Knowledge of the European copyright law

Typical duties

  • Shooting short videos of different types (interviews with students, promo videos about the school activities, educational documentary films)
  • Installing subtitles to the educational videos of the school
  • Making and editing photos of the school, premises, and city sights
  • Editing social media pages

Position: Layout (graphic) designer

This is a challenging position for creative people who are passionate about the web and graphic design. We offer a unique chance to enlarge your professional portfolio with the samples of the promo materials made for the school.

Since the school is making different course books and study materials in the Russian language, your name will be on the cover of the projects you participate in.

Requirements: 

  • Minimum admission age: 20
  • Knowledge of the European copyright law
  • Experience in designing and editing promo materials – brochures, posters etc (we kindly ask you to send a link to your sample work)
  • Students applying for this position are asked to come to the programme with their own laptop with the software necessary to edit texts, make promo materials
  • Knowledge of Russian at a minimum A 2.1. level
  • Excellent knowledge of Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Coral Draw, InDesign or similar editing programmes

Typical duties

  • Producing simple promo materials of the school (posters, social media posts, adverts, etc)
  • Creating or editing the layout of the in-house produced educational materials

HALF-TIME WORK AND STUDY PROGRAMME

With this programme you will take a Standard group course (20 lessons per week) with a 50% discount.

For the work component of this programme, you will be asked to work in our foreign language school (not in the Russian language school) for 10 hours a week (mostly in the evening, latest till 22:00, the exact hours will be decided upon the arrival by your supervisor).

Position: teaching assistant

This is an excellent position for students who aim to work with languages and teaching. We offer a unique chance to see from inside how the process of teaching is organized in our school. You will be a part of a team of professional teachers and motivated school administrators.  

Upon completion of the programme, alongside the certificate from your Russian course, you will receive a certificate confirming dates and nature of your work for us that could be used to your advantage in further job-hunting. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum age of candidates: 20
  • Prior education in linguistics or teaching preferable
  • Experience in teaching is not required
  • Knowledge of Russian at a minimum of A 2.1. level
  • English, Italian, and French native speakers preferred
  • Preference is usually given to the former students of the Derzhavin Institute

Typical duties

  • Phone tutoring (i.e. calling Russian students who are studying languages in our school and talking to them in your native language - the topics of the talks will be given you in advance by the group teacher)
  • Social Media Management (SMM) assistance (i.e. writing articles in your language related to language learning, finding interesting and engaging content to post on our social media pages)
  • Organizing conversational clubs for Russian students learning languages
  • Reception duties
  • Assisting professional teachers in a language class with Russian students
  • Proofreading school materials (tests, course materials, books, etc)
